Pastor Andrew (Andy) Smothers
About Me
I’m a pastor currently serving near Pittsburgh, PA (Valencia), but have also served churches in New York City; Zambia (Africa); Manama, Bahrain (Middle East); and central Montana (Conrad).
Education and Previous Experience
I’ve had an interesting journey to ministry. Having first studied electrical engineering (University of Iowa), I worked over ten years as an engineer developing software and hardware and, also, working with customers and our design teams to develop requirements and ensure customer requirements were implemented.
Within that period, I completed degrees in chemistry and biochemistry (Coe College) and completed coursework generally required for a Ph.D. in human genetics (University of Iowa).
Sensing the call to ministry through various experiences in the church, I completed a Master of Divinity at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. Several years, later, while going through old documents, I would realize this wasn’t as new of a discernment as I thought. I would realize I had contemplated ministry as a vocation the first year of my engineering program.
